Unparalleled Electrochemical Stability
GS’s Ionic Liquid exhibits unparalleled electrochemical stability across a wide range of voltages at no expense to ion conductivity or thermal stability.
In essence, the electrochemical window determines the range of voltages at which the Ionic Liquid’s cations and anions are electrochemically inert i.e. not susceptible to reduction and oxidation respectively, reactions which can create impurities such as halides and water, in turn negatively impacting the stability of the electrolyte.
The wide electrochemical window of GS’s Ionic Liquid goes some way towards explaining the fantastic stability and performance metrics of batteries (in this case a small 800mAh cellphone battery) containing such an electrolyte. A wide electrochemical window also allows for high-voltage electrodes to be used (greater than 4V) without fear of electrolyte degradation. |
