Superior Cycle Life
Batteries containing GS Ionic Liquid have shown dramatic improvements in cycle life over those containing conventional electrolyte solutions (e.g. Lithium salts such as LIPF6 and solvents such as EC and DMC/DEC). A Long cycle life is a critical attribute for a battery, especially for use in demanding automotive applications.
The exact electrochemical mechanisms in the GS Ionic Liquid battery (giving rise to its superior performance) have yet to be elucidated - it is predicted though that a lack of lithium salts precludes the formation of a Solid Electrolyte Interface (SEI), a feature of conventional Li-Ion chemistry which negatively impacts longevity.
GS Ionic Liquid exhibits exemplary ion conductivity and has no solvents that can undergo polymerisation under certain conditions (which impedes ion kinetics in the cell over time), ensuring long cycle life without the worry of thermal ‘events’, aided in large part by the complete lack of Lithium salts in the electrolyte solution itself. |
